According to the National Association of Tobacco Outlets (NATO), the FDA has increased the fines assessed against retailers that violate federal tobacco regulations. The new fine amounts are applicable to those assessed after August 1 2016, even if the violation(s) have occurred as far back as November 2, 2015. The Federal Civil Penalties Inflation Adjustment Act of 2015 permits the FDA to adjust its monetary fines for inflation annually.
