According to the International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers Association (IPCPR), House Bill 139 and Senate Bill 320 are currently stalled in the House Ways and Means Committee and the Senate Committee on Budget and Taxation. These bills would reduce Maryland’s premium cigar tax from 15% to 7.5%. It is imperative that our brothers & sisters of the leaf in the state of Maryland reach out to your elected officials ASAP and express your firm support for these bills. As Monday’s cross-over deadline (March 21, 2016) is fast approaching, your voice of support is necessary in efforts to keep these bills viable.
Please consider using some of these talking points on HB 139 and SB 320 when calling your elected officials:
Current tax burden is higher than all neighboring states
Helps small businesses in Maryland compete with neighboring states and internet sales
Protects small business jobs
Minimal fiscal impact to the state
