Smokeasy Q&A

Random questions frequently asked by novice smokers and aspiring cigar connoisseurs

Help! I put a cigar butt in a plastic zip lock bag, then placed it in my humidor (to keep for sentimental reasons). Now after several months, my humidor has a smoky odor that I can't get rid of. Any suggestions?

Absolutely! First and foremost, remove the culprit - sorry, it's gotta go! If the nub is of true sentimental value, then you will need to keep it in a separate container. Your other option is to just toss it and keep the band, if you still have it If you do have some other cigars in the humidor, rest assured, those have likely taken on the pungency from the smoked nub. Once you remove the nub, just be diligent to air out the humidor multiple times a day, by periodically opening it for about 10 minutes multiple times throughout the day, every day. The odor should disappear - may take quite some time since the nub was left in for several months, but exercise some patience.

In addition, consider adding a few Spanish cedar strips or blocks to your humidor, to help eliminate that rancid odor.
