Is it OK to stack cigars on top of each other in a humidor? Or should they only be lined up next to each other?
It's always OK to stack cigars in your humidor. Take a moment to think about your local cigar shop and the number of cigars they have in stock - now imagine if they only lined their cigars next to each other...they would need a humidor larger than the size of the state of Texas!
The real question is whether you should pack your humidor to capacity - and the answer is NO! A humidor is intended to keep cigars within an environment for optimal storage and aging, which not only requires a certain level of relative humidity, but also adequate air circulation. So stacking cigars loosely in your humidor is fine, but never pack it to capacity and leave adequate room for circulation. In addition, periodically rotate your cigars at least every 3 months (particularly those in longer term storage for aging) to ensure all cigars benefit from the moisture provided by the humidification device. If your humidor is large enough for a small fan to help circulate the air, then you may not need to rotate your cigars as frequently.
